Canelo vs Chavez Jnr – Battle for Mexican pride

Saul Canelo Alverez is set to take on Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr on May 6th T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas at a catch weight of 165lbs.Canelo the current WBO Light Middleweight champion fresh off his most recent victory over Liam Smith at the AT&T Stadium in Texas when he stopped the Englishman in the 9th round with a vicious Left hook to the liver with an impressive record of 48-1-1 holding wins over the likes of Shane Mosley Miguel Cotto & Amir Khan with his only professional loss coming at the hands of widely considered “GOAT” 49-0 Floyd “Money” Mayweather.

Chavez Jnr’s path was almost always going to be the path of Professional Boxing the son of the Great 6 time world champion Julio Cesar Chavez with 115 Professional fights with the likes of Oscar De La Hoya,Pernell Whitaker, Meldrick Taylor & Roger Mayweather Chavez will go down as one of the best to ever step inside the squared circle so you can imagine the shoes his son Chavez Jnr has to fill but he set out to cement his own legacy with a record of 50-2-1 with his Typical Mexican style of boxing a face forward pressure fighter his intensity & volume punching lead him to win a WBC world title of his own.

Both Canelo & Chavez Jnr have stated that this fight is about more than just the W this fight is about the pride of Mexico who is the best Mexican Boxer in the world right now ? both men have alot to prove in this fight and contrasting styles are almost certain to make an exciting fight Alverez’s Power Punching vs Chavez Jnr’s Volume style going to be very interesting to see how the battle for Mexico plays out …Canelo is looking to impress and set up future fights with Gennady Golovkin “GGG” or Billy Joe Saunders but Chavez Jnr is looking to spoil his foe’s plans and step out of his fathers shadow and create his own legacy.

About Us

MMA in Newcastle Upon Tyne and the North East generally has grown massively over the last few years and coupled with its boxing heritage it’s truly astounding that the regions capitol city has been without a dedicated Martial Arts and Boxing store for so long. Newcastle was without an MMA store until 2011 when FIGHT STORE Newcastle opened. Since Then we have been a part of the community with the staff and owners all having been involved for many years in the sports we work for. The MMAnewcastle website was originally built purely because of the amount of inquires we received daily about where people could train. We offer our directory and events listing free to the North East Martial Arts and Boxing community and will continue to work to promote the sports we love in our region
