DUEL 6 is the latest combat sports event from DUEL Fight Sports and Promoter David Weild. The event features a stacked card of international K-1 kickboxing, with combatants from Portugal, Poland, Romania, and the UK. Featured fighters include ISKA World Super-Heavyweight K-1 Champion Lukasz ‘The Punisher’ Parobiec & WKL European Super-Cruiserweight Champion Thomas ‘The Destroyer’ Daniel. In total 7 championships will be contested, including WKL International & European Championships, 2 DUEL Super-Fight Championships, and DUEL National Championships in K-1, boxing, & Muay Thai.

DUEL’s primary focus is K-1 Rules Kickboxing. Stand-out fighters such as Micky ‘The Manor’ Terrill, Jamie Bates, Kev Ward, Marlon ‘The Game’ Hunt, Andrei Ostrovanu, Paul ‘The Menace’ Venis, Liam James, and Andrew Fisher have all appeared on DUEL shows. DUEL continues to seek out established and emerging stars; contact David Weild if you’re looking to be matched for future shows.

WKL International K-1 Championship, DUEL Super-Fight Championship, and WKL World Championship Eliminator:

Thomas ‘The Destroyer’ Daniel (Middlesbrough, UK) vs. Alvaro ‘Tower of Power’ Silva (Lisbon, Portugal)

Middlesbrough’s Tommo ‘The Destroyer’ Daniel made a huge impression in his DUEL debut last September, winning the vacant WKL European Super-Cruiserweight K-1 Championship in a phenomenal 5-round war vs. Portugal’s Luis Sant’Anna Leite of KO Team, Lisbon. (See the full fight here). Daniel has appeared extensively on Garry Bell’s Contender Promotions show in the Teesside area and on highly-regarded SuperKombat European shows. At DUEL 6, Daniel faces another product of the Portuguese KO Team in the physically imposing Alvaro ‘Tower of Power’ Silva, a hard-hitting, bully of a fighter. The winner of this 5×3 K-1 bout leaves with the WKL International Super-Cruiserweight K-1 Championship & the DUEL Super-Fight Championship. The bout is ALSO a WKL World Championship Eliminator, with the victor guaranteed a shot at a version of the world title won by North Shields’ Micky ‘The Manor’ Terrill at DUEL 2! Bus loads of Teessiders will be making the short journey to Newcastle to support their man as he attempts to inch a step closer to his dream of world honours!

WKL European Flyweight K-1 Championship & DUEL Super-Fight Championship:

Fred ‘The Joker’ Cordeiro (Carcavelos, Portugal) vs. Gary Laws (Newcastle, UK)

Fred Cordeiro is something of a sensation, quickly establishing himself as a must-see attraction in DUEL competition. Having defeated Andy Hughes at DUEL 3 to win the DUEL Super-Fight Championship with an acrobatic heel kick, he proceeded to dispose of Connor Long at DUEL 4 with a vicious overhand right. Most recently, at DUEL 5 he continued his streak, annihilating the always game John Spencer in under 45 seconds, scoring the first knockdown with a viciously perfect head-body-leg combination, then ending the fight with a devastating wheel kick! Cordeiro is explosive, unpredictable, technical, and pure excitement. He recently made his presence felt on the world stage, taking Japanese favourite Tenshin Nasukawa to the judges’ decision in Japan at RISE 110 in a battle for the vacant ISKA World Bantamweight K-1 Championship. In hostile conditions, ‘The Joker’ pressed the fight in the latter rounds, convincing many that the decision was debatable. The emerging world star’s return to DUEL competition is an incredibly stiff challenge. Gary Laws of Northern Kings Gym, Newcastle, is an incredibly popular Muay Thai stand-out, now established as the UK Independent K-1 Rankings‘ #1 55KG fighter in the United Kingdom. Laws makes his long-awaited DUEL debut, eager to take the limelight from Cordeiro and establish himself as an international force. The North East fight fans are in for a cracker, a fight with the potential to make stars of both men.

From Muay Thai Blog UK‘s interview with Laws: ““Training couldn’t have gone any better, really. I feel really strong and sharp, and can’t wait to get in that ring on Saturday. It means a lot to fight for the titles but more so for Fred’s scalp, as many regard him as one of the best fighters in the World/ Europe and I’m going to show everyone that I am!”

The K-1 talent on the DUEL 6 card is deep. ISKA World Super-Heavyweight K-1 Champion Lukasz Parobiec rematches Combat Challenge Super-Heavyweight K-1 Champion Darren ‘Honeymonster’ Moffitt after their DUEL Super-Heavyweight Tournament Semi-Final at DUEL 4 ended with Moffitt withdrawing due to a leg injury. This time, we find out once and for all, which of these two powerhouses is the better man. Parobiec has become a regular in the DUEL ring, defeating James Cannon last Autumn by hard-fought decision.

Craig Shadforth (MASAC Gym, County Durham) and Ash Griffiths (Renzo Gracue Jiu-Jitsu, Hartlepool) square-off over 5x3s for the vacant DUEL National Welterweight K-1 Championship, while North Shields’ former British & European champion Steve ‘Hellraiser’ Ibbotson (Ibbotson Kickboxing Academy, North Shields) continues his K-1 comeback after ending his 7-year absence at DUEL 5, making waves across the UK circuit with a blistering victory.

Other exciting match-ups include Wayne Lewis (The Manor Gym, Wallsend) vs. Raz ‘The Impaler’ Boast (Evolution Kickboxing, Accrington), Sunderland’s Richie Bonallie (Team Fish Tank, Sunderland) vs. Kyle Todd (Millennium Martial Arts, Blyth), Michael Hall (The Manor Gym, Wallsend) vs. Shaun Willians (Contender Fight Academy, Middlesbrough).

Rounding off the K-1 is a Friend vs. Friend Charity Bout as childhood friends Marc ‘White Kimbo’ Groves and Mark ‘Trojan’ Costigan face-off to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support. Both men have been trained by Steve Ibbotson at his Ibbotson Kickboxing Academy in North Shields. They’re not familiar with the phrase “charity begins at home” so they’re doing it in a boxing ring with hundreds of people watching. Credit to them for what is sure to be an entertaining spectacle!

DUEL Boxing League

In addition to the K-1 main card, Andrew Wile of REPS Boxing Club has matched guaranteed all-action bouts for the evening’s DUEL Boxing League card, including KO artist Billy ‘Bang Bang’ Hawthorn vs. Athos Konstandi for the vacant DUEL National Heavyweight Boxing Championship, and cult bare knuckle boxing champion Micky ‘The Real Deal’ Ferry vs. Fergal Allonby. Other bouts include Joe Mullen vs. James Moore and John Cairns vs. Daz Willians.

DUEL Muay Thai Elements

In an exciting (and very much overdue) addition, DUEL Fight Sports has partnered with Steve ‘Erawan’ Wright of Unity Thai Fight and Erawan Thai Boxing Gym to develop DUEL Muay Thai Elements, a Muay Thai league featuring some of the region’s best emerging talent. The inaugural DUEL Muay Thai Elements card  is headlined by a bout to crown the first DUEL Muay Thai National Champion, Cody Ditcheva (of Northern Spirit Muay Thai, Sale) vs. Kevin Carr (of Jai Suu Muay Thai, Blyth).

A limited number of tickets remain, but fortune favours the brave so click here to check for online tickets.

About Us

MMA in Newcastle Upon Tyne and the North East generally has grown massively over the last few years and coupled with its boxing heritage it’s truly astounding that the regions capitol city has been without a dedicated Martial Arts and Boxing store for so long. Newcastle was without an MMA store until 2011 when FIGHT STORE Newcastle opened. Since Then we have been a part of the community with the staff and owners all having been involved for many years in the sports we work for. The MMAnewcastle website was originally built purely because of the amount of inquires we received daily about where people could train. We offer our directory and events listing free to the North East Martial Arts and Boxing community and will continue to work to promote the sports we love in our region
